Got a little time to kill

I had a dinner planned with a friend tonight, but he had to cancel at the last minute. Normally, I’d go home, but I have another meeting planned at 7:00pm, and if I go home I probably won’t make it to my next meeting. My couch tends to draw me over and suck me in when I go home. When that happens, I get lazy and probably fall asleep. That means I miss the meeting, and I don’t want to do that.

So here I sit at my favorite pizza joint (Sunset Pizzeria at Sunset and Eastern) near the office, spaghetti and meatballs on order, killing a little time so I can make my 7:00pm meeting instead of wathing the inside of my eyelids on the couch. …

As I was writing that, my dinner arrived and was as good as I would have hoped. One thing I like about Sunset is that they don’t use iceberg lettuce on thier salads. My loathing for iceberg knows no bounds. It’s really nasty stuff. I know it has a tiny bit of nutritional value, but it’s basically worthless to me. On top of that, it always gives me heartburn and nasty burps. I don’t want it anywhere near my plate, especially in a salad, but also nowhere near a burger or anything hot that will turn it wilty and nasty and slimy. Ick.

Sorry. Got off track there. Like I was saying, Sunset uses nice greens for their salads. The spaghetti and meatballs were tasty. Good sauce, and the pasta was nicely al dente. Not amazing, but pretty darn good, especially for an under-$10 dinner. The garlic bread set it off nicely. Another thing I liek about Sunset is that they have a salt shaker full of garlic powder. I use it quite heavily since I LOVE me some garlic.

The best bonus, of course, if the free Wi-Fi. Anywhere I can set up the iPad and check out what’s going on outside my immediate periphery is a good thing. Wi-Fi is becomiong more and more common. It’s amazing ther number of parking lots you can pull into and snigg out some free interwebs. I’m not sure of the legality of that, but if it’s wide open, I don’t see the issue.

Heck, at Casa Vargas, I have a few different Wi-Fi networks set up, one of which is publicly accessible in case a wandering nomad happens by and needds a little access. I really don’t mind if someone wants to grab a few bytes out of the air, and I hope others share that attitude.

Dinner is sitting nicely. OK, I’m actually pretty full. And it’s getting time to drive to the meeting. Time to put away the toys for a little bit and do what I gotta do.
